Today we feature Iris Belshaw from Coleraine who lovingly crafts each of her hand made ceramic sheep into unique, colourful and one-off pieces to cherish.

1. What makes your product unique?

I make hand build ceramic sheep. Each one develops its own personality during the making. They are made in a variety of sizes from really small to big garden sculptures
I just love working with clay and my sheep make me and many of my customers smile.
I find the process f making completely absorbing and when people admire you work, that’s the ultimate complement
I had retired from a successful international career in Human Resources which I thoroughly enjoyed. I regularly made some sculptures throughout my career so when I found myself with more time I signed up for a purse at Flowerfiekd Art Centre in Portstewart. At the end of the course we had a student exhibition and I sold out plus I received a number of orders from local gift shops . This has taken me by surprise as I have found contrasting fulfillment in a second career in my retirement .
There are so many excellent makers in Northern Ireland and the sector is really important to our growing tourist numbers. Quality and uniqueness will always be attractive to the customer whether from home or abroad
Work hard, keep connected with the customer and do this all with a smile on your face.
As my pieces are all unique my photo library in Irisbelshawceramics/Facebook is the most up to date resources, a link is available from my website.
